The Countdown to MISS CALIFORNIA USA

CA MISS USA

WHO WILL BE THE NEXT MISS CALIFORNIA USA 2010?

“If its to be…it’s up to me.”

-Unknown

In the world of pageantry, this quote holds true for each and every contestant. It’s up to the girl to create the perfect hair-do, apply a flawless layer of makeup, pick out the perfect dress, strap on the 5 inch heels, and work hard to have the perfect bathing suit body up on stage.

They have to walk the walk, talk the talk and like my pageant coach always said, “make those judges love you”. But that’s not all, come pageant day, these women are up against a group of equally beautiful and prepared women who are also after the same goal, taking home the crown.

To top it all off, in the end only ONE girl is crowned…One. Not the top 5, not a crown for each honorable mention, but ONE.

The Rolls Royce of Pageants

The top of the top, the best of the best, the holy grail of pageants, is one that has seen a lot of controversy over the last decade…or two. Since 1952, The Miss Universe Organization, co-owned by Mr. Donald Trump himself, has based their pageant system on 3 things; beautiful women, T.V. contracts, and “media-attracting” controversy.

Under the Miss Universe Organization, is the MISS USA pageant, as well as the 51 state competitions. One state pageant in particular has had more time in the spotlight than they would have hoped.

The Miss California USA organization, produced by Keith Lewis, K2 productions, and former Miss USA and playboy model, Shawna Moakler have been in the spotlight more than any other state pageant under the Miss Universe Organization.

2008

In 2008, Christina Silva, Miss Los Angeles, was crowned as the new Miss California USA, and then days later was stripped of her title because the CA organization claimed they had miscalculated the points and had crowned the wrong winner.

After Ms. Silva filed and won a million dollar lawsuit against Keith Lewis and the Miss California USA organization, she was still not awarded the title and was asked to give up her crown to Raquel Beezly, the actual winner.

Click Here for KTLA’s interview with both Christina Silva and Keith Lewis.

2009

When the 2009 pageant came along, everything went quite smoothly, two crowd favorites, Chelsea Gilligan and Carrie Prejean were crowned as the new Miss California Teen USA and Miss California USA.

But again, the organizations karma came back once again and took them through a whirlwind they could have never predicted.

Former (i’ll get to this soon) Miss California USA, Carrie Prejean went on to compete at the MISS USA pageant in Las Vegas, Nevada and finished 1st runner up.

Now, you may ask, whats controversial about a Miss California USA finishing as 1st runner up? Its not how she finished, its why she didn’t finish on top that made the news.

Prejean was asked a controversial on stage question by celebrity blogger and Miss USA judge, Perez Hilton.

After Prejean’s on stage answer, and the pageant was over, Perez Hilton created a video blog about his feelings regarding Miss California USA and her answer.

This is what happens when Mr. Trump decides to get involved:

And then…
Controversial Carrie? Nude photos released.

And again…
There’s more? More nude photos!

When the Miss California USA organization “had enough”:

Mr Trumph changes his mind:

Enough is Enough?

Carrie decided to fight back…

Religious Discrimination?

The Miss California USA Organization decided to fight back as well:

Does…

it…

ever…

end?

Opps! *BREAKING NEWS*

With all of this controversy still going on, you would think, who would want to compete in a pageant like this?

This year at the Miss California Teen USA and Miss California USA orientation, held at the Riviera Resort and Spa in Palm Springs, CA October 24th and 25th, where over 300 contestants signed up ready to compete in the 2010 competition. In addition, The CA USA organization has signed on with The CW for a live broadcast of the pageant this year.

In a time of economic struggle, the pageant has brought in more sponsorship money than they have ever produced before. But why? Is it because of the Carrie Prejean controversy, the increased interest in pageants, or that publicity, whether its positive or negative, is still publicity.

Either way, K2 Productions and the Miss California USA  have made it known they are dedicated to making this year the most “memorial” pageant of all.

Below is a copy of the press release sent out to all the the 2010 contestants:

*** MEDIA ALERT ***

“MISS CALIFORNIA USA® IS COMING TO TELEVISION ON NOVEMBER 22nd.
TRUST ME. ANYTHING CAN HAPPEN!” – DONALD TRUMP

MISS CALIFORNIA USA® GETS MAKEOVER

Stylish wardrobes and backdrop, more contestants and a double crowning make this not your mother’s beauty pageant.

Los Angeles, Oct. 15, 2009—The MISS CALIFORNIA USA pageant is a putting on a brand new face for 2010 with a more stylized production befitting its trend-setting locale.

Airing live from The Show at Agua Caliente Casino•Resort•Spa in Rancho Mirage on Sunday, Nov. 22, the pageant promises to represent a more chic and up-to-the-moment event than in years past in music, program and clothing. It will also increase the number of contestants to 150.

“We’re taking a new look at a traditional idea and energizing it for 2010,” says Keith Lewis, executive director of MISS CALIFORNIA USA. “We’re bringing it into a new decade.”

Gone are sashes and swimsuit uniforms; in are individualized styles that flow and compliment the shapes of the women for a more natural, seamless walk. The Top 10 in the finale of the pageant will don creations by world-renowned fashion designer Tony Bowls.

Adding to the excitement is an announcement that the pageant will be crowning two winners instead of one. Pageant officials did not confirm if it was a proactive response to the controversy of the last year, but instead asked viewers to tune in live to see for themselves. As Donald Trump, owner of the MISS USA pageant, said, “Anything can happen!”

The winner of the MISS CALIFORNIA USA pageant will go on to compete in the MISS USA Pageant, the precursor to Miss Universe.

“This year’s event will be bigger and reflect the progressive attitudes of the contestants as well as our forward-looking state,” says Lewis. “It will change the essence of MISS CALIFORNIA USA from a bathing-suit beauty contest to the style of a runway show during fashion week.”

The pageant will air live November 22nd from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. on select CW and MY Television Stations. Check local listings for broadcast information.

ORIENTATION 2010

Being a Former Miss California Teen USA 1st runner up, I have seen first hand what goes into a pageant of this caliber and what it takes to compete at the highest level. I attended the orientation for this Miss California USA pageant and had a chance to catch up with a few of the contestants and get an inside look of what went on.

Miss contestant, Nicole johnson filled me in on her life as a pageant queen and a behind the scenes looks at what went on at orientation this year.

So because it’s pageant taboo for me to actually name my FAVORITE contestants competing for the title of Miss California TEEN USA and Miss California USA 2010 (as you can tell by my slide show, I do have some pretty obvious front runners in mind) Id like the leave the question for you.

WHO DO YOU THINK WILL TAKE HOME THE CROWN?

Log on and leave me a comment with Your thoughts on who the winners will be!

Until the, we’ll just have to wait and see…….
